Yves Tumor shares video for “Secrecy Is Incredibly Important To The Both of Them”

Yves Tumor shares video for “Secrecy Is Incredibly Important To The Both of Them”
The Asymptotical World EP is out now.

By Jordan Darville

February 16, 2022

Yves Tumor started out as a provocative underground noise musician. Then, with 2020’s Heaven To A Tortured Mind, they unfurled into a rock star with the kind of vibrance that makes almost everything else in the genre look dull by comparison. How long until they qualify for their own Super Bowl halftime show? Until then, we can enjoy superb visuals like “Secrecy Is Incredibly Important To The Both of Them,” taken from 2021’s The Asymptotical World EP.

Each scene in Jordan Hemingway’s music video feels like it is ripped from a different, insanely stylish thriller film. There’s Yves Tumor thrown in prison, Yves Tumor in a shootout, Yves Tumor the double agent, even Yves Tumor the James Bond seducer. There’s some loose visual grammar stringing them together, making the video feel like a code that can be broken if you stare at it long enough.

We’re not getting this video out of the goodness of Tumor’s heart, though: their tour is coming up, and they expect you to be there. Find dates here.

The Asymptomatic World, Yves Tumor’s latest EP, came out in July. It contained the lead single “Jackie,” an anthemic and lovesick track that made it on our Songs You Need playlist. Their 2020 album Heaven For A Tortured Mind was one of our favorite releases in 2020.

Yves Tumor shares new song/video “Jackie”
It’s their first new single since last year’s album Heaven To A Tortured Mind.

By Jordan Darville

June 15, 2021

Yves Tumor was not only behind one of the most convincing reinventions of 2020 — from experimental texture alchemist to glam-rock god — but they also created one of the year’s best albums in the process, Heaven To A Tortured Mind. Today Tumor returns with another single “Jackie,” a towering space-guitar epic that builds on his latest, transformative era. Rick Farin and Claire Cochran direct the song’s music video, where Tumor battles the titular Jackie under a sky of piercing purples. Live-action anime adapters, take note.

Paris Texas share new song/video “FORCE OF HABIT”

Paris Texas share new song/video “FORCE OF HABIT”
The Compton rap duo’s debut project BOY ANONYMOUS is out May 14.

By Jordan Darville

April 14, 2021

Paris Texas are an emerging rap duo from Compton with a string of promising recent singles under their belt. It all started last month with “HEAVY METAL,” striking for its instrumental’s lead guitar, as stripped down as a White Stripes demo while rappers Lousie Pascal and Felix drop lysergic bars full of flexing. We added that track to our weekly Songs You Need playlist back when it dropped. Last month we heard “SITUATIONS,” a gothy and brooding track that recalled recent Yves Tumor mixed with T.D.E, and it cemented the act as one to watch. Today there’s another new song called “FORCE OF HABIT.” It reminds me of the cult lo-fi rapper Cities Aviv, King Krule, and OutKast if Andre and Big Boi were raised on YouTube. Have a listen in the clip’s music video above, and watch out for Paris Texas’s debut project BOY ANONYMOUS, out May 25.
