The Met Gala 2021 took place on Monday night at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. Like most major events taking place this year, The Met Gala was postponed (it usually takes place in May) and didn’t happen at all in 2020. The stars made up for lost time, though, embracing the vague theme “American independence” and running with it. Lil Nas X and Billie Eilish (see above) were both in attendance, with Eilish one of the event’s co-chairs alongside Timothée Chalamet, Amanda Gorman, and Naomi Osaka. Frank Ocean made a rare public apearance, bringing a small friend along for company, while Rihanna had A$AP Rocky by her side. Scroll down to peep all of the best musician looks from the night.

Lil Kim Wants Teyana Taylor To Play Her In Her Biopic: “I Love Teyana”

Lil Kim wants Teyana Taylor to play her in a biopic on her life story.

Lil Kim said, “I love Teyana, you know she’s from Harlem.” Kimmy added that even before she met Teyana Taylor, she always felt that she would want someone from the hood she is from so they can connect, s. “Even before Teyana, I would love to give some little girl from Brooklyn so I can connect…it’s gotta be a girl who is from the hood I’m from,” she told Essence.

In 2016 Teyana Taylor paid homage to Lil Kim for her birthday as she performed at a VH1 function to honor trailblazing female acts in Hip Hop- Missy Elliot, Queen Latifa, Salt N Pepa featuring Spinderella, and Lil’ Kim.

She and her husband, Cleveland Cavaliers’ Iman Shumpert, appeared in a classic Lil’ Kim and Biggie re-inaction to critical acclaim. Teyana performed Kim’s hit single ‘No Time’ from her debut album Hardcore including her verse in ‘It’s All About The Benjamins’.

Teyana’s performance was complete with a Lil Kim inspired outfit. Over the years, Lil Kim, whose real name is Kimberly Jones, has been credited as one of the foundational women in music- paving the way for the current generation of rap and hip hop artists. Her presence in the industry has not come without its fair share of controversy as the rapper rapidly changed her appearance. Her ebony brown skin and thick black hair were replaced by almost porcelain skin and blonde hair. She has also appeared to have plastic surgery to change the shape of her face, including her nose.

In an interview in 2000 speaking about her shocking transformation, which her fans have likened to her moving from being an African American person to now a white woman in appearance, she said she has always had self-esteem issues – being told by men she was not ‘pretty enough’- “it’s always been men putting me down , just like my dad.”

Meanwhile, Lil Kim had hinted at a future biopic of her life that would portray her come up in the rap game at a time when women were virtually unknown to be entering the space. With a history that dates back to her being discovered by Notorious B.I.G, who invited her to join his Junior M.A.F.I.A in 1994.

She later led a successful career with two top 20 singles being certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). Her debut album Hardcore was certified double platinum, and she also is among the only of three female rappers – Queen Latifa and Nicki Minaj to have at least three- platinum-certified studio albums.

She is credited as being the influence behind women in rap embracing their sexuality and femininity in a way not widely appreciated during the era of male-dominated rap and women being relegated to lesser important roles.

Teyana Taylor dials in for the “1800-One-Night” video

Teyana Taylor dials in for the “1800-One-Night” video
Her new full-length The Album is out now.

Teyana Taylor‘s last music video for “Still” sparked quite a bit of controversy in our Twitter mentions when we posted it out; the clip features Taylor dressed as different victims of police brutality like Breonna Taylor and George Floyd. She wasn’t the first or even the most famous artist to evoke Black death in a music video, but she still got most of the heat for it even if her heart was in the right place.

Her new music video for “1800-One-Night,” out today, seems unlikely to provoke as much conversation. Taylor again steps behind the camera to direct a small-slice-of-life scenario following a group of phone sex workers making their living in tiny cubicles. After a two-minute introduction, the steamy and spare R&B song begins. Check the video out above.

At 3:28 am on Sept 6th 2020 Rue Rose 🌹 decided that the baby shower thrown for her and mommy was too lit. She didn’t make the party but she managed to make the next day her birthdate!!! Now…when we buy homes, we always find a bathroom with great energy… but not in a million years would you be able to tell me we’d deliver both of our daughters in a bathroom without the assistance of a hospital! Our newest edition entered the world in the water and came out looking around and ready to explore! A healthy child. A little sister. Another daughter. Black love wins….again. Welcome babygirl…we love you! 🌹 @babyruerose

“At 3:28 am on Sept 6th 2020 Rue Rose decided that the baby shower thrown for her and mommy was too lit.” Shumpert wrote on Instagram, explaining that, much like the birth of daughter Iman in 2015, Rue was born at home. “She didn’t make the party but she managed to make the next day her birthdate!!! Now…when we buy homes, we always find a bathroom with great energy… but not in a million years would you be able to tell me we’d deliver both of our daughters in a bathroom without the assistance of a hospital!”

Taylor revealed her pregnancy in June, debuting her baby bump in the “Wake Up Love” music video. More recently Taylor dressed as Malcolm X, George Floyd, and Breonna Taylor in her “Still” video. Teyana Taylor has released a new video for “Still,” a highlight from her recently-released K.T.S.E. follow-up The Album. As Pitchfork points out, the clip features Taylor invoking the images of multiple Black civil rights leaders and victims of police brutality, including Malcolm X, Huey P. Newton, George Floyd, and Breonna Taylor. In addition, the clip utilizes archival footage of protests and police brutality, including of the murder of George Floyd. The clip is introduced as “A Spike Tey Joint,” a homage to “A Spike Lee Joint,” the credit Spike Lee receives at the beginning of his films. Watch “Still” above; viewers should be aware that the film contains graphic and disturbing footage of police brutality.

The Album was released on Juneteenth. It features collaborations with Kehlani, Future, and more. A month after the album’s release, Mykki Blanco, the rapper who was featured on Taylor’s 2018 track “WTP,” alleged that the singer had failed to pay them for their feature, and asked fans to stop streaming the song. Taylor did not respond to the allegation.

Can you believe it’s been two years and Universal Music has still not paid me my feature fee for this song? Can you believe it took 1 year with the help of my lawyer to get credited on the song, because it did. I wrote on and co- produced this track as well as writing the verse that Kanye literally raps on “Hurry”. Is that a big accomplishment to write for other artists NO, this isn’t about clout. . The reason I have gone public with this is not to bad mouth @teyanataylor, but her ENTIRE team and Universal have treated me WITH SO MUCH DISRESPECT, THEY HAVE TREATED ME BAD YALL… REALLY BAD, I HATE DOING THIS ON SOCIAL MEDIA BUT I HAVE HAD IT!!!!! It’s a pandemic, like so many musicians I’m completely out of work. I’m doing writing jobs here and there but almost all of my income like so many others stems from touring. I’ve had it, I didn’t want to go public but the way I have been treated is really, really, really bad. These people have been flippant, rude, they have lied, delayed, found me “harmless” and “inconsequential”. . I’m asking all of my fans PLEASE DO NOT STREAM “WTP”. . PLEASE DO NOT STREAM @teyanataylor “WTP”. . I’ve had it, everything associated with this song and these people is ANTI- LGBTQ 🏳️‍🌈. It’s a lie, after 2 years and during a pandemic they still act like paying me a simple feature fee is a joke. This song and these people do not support Black, Trans & Queer people, it’s a lie I’m done participating in. . Universal thinks making me wait 2 years for proper credit and a simple feature fee is okay. They think I’m a small artist with inconsequential reach. . Please I ask you, stop streaming and never stream again “WTP”.

“WTP” was released on Taylor’s 2018 album K.T.S.E. According to Blanco, it took her a year and a lawyer to receive her writing credit and feature on the song, and she has yet to receive an acknowledgment from Universal Music for co-producing “WTP,” or for writing Kanye West’s verse on the K.T.S.E. song “Hurry.”

Blanco wrote that the economic fallout from the coronavirus has increased the urgency of her message. “It’s a pandemic, like so many musicians I’m completely out of work… I didn’t want to go public but the way I have been treated is really, really, really bad.”

Teyana Taylor Finally Meet Her Idol Janet Jackson In Person

Teyana Taylor is a celebrity in her own right but recently she got a chance to meet an even bigger celebrity, Janet Jackson, someone she idolized.

Last month, Teyana posted a video on Instagram of herself on FaceTime with Janet Jackson where she got emotional talking to the pop icon. She finally got a chance to meet Janet in person at one of her concerts. She posted a boomerang video clip of them standing together with their heads turn backwards. “Mothaaaaa f**kinnnnnnnn moodddddd: One of the best days of my life!,” she wrote. “I can’t believe we are really in the same room…!! she gives the best hugs I love you jannnnnn @janetjackson #Finally #SOTW #BestConcertIveEverBeenTo.”

Teyana Taylor has long expressed that Janet Jackson is her idol and even as recent as this year she wore a Jackson-inspired bare midriff ensemble to the MTV Video Music Awards. Back in 2012, she recreated Janet Jackson’s iconic nearly nude photo shoot for Rolling Stone magazine. So it seems Jackson has been paying attention and this is her way of showing love to someone who idolized her so much.

Watch Chris Brown Ft. Future & Young Thug “High End” Video

Chris Brown takes Friday the 13th to a whole new level in his new video “High End” featuring Future and Young Thug.

This is another cut where Breezy takes on the directing mantle with the help of Spiff TV. The video Halloween-themed video features Chris Brown as a zombie and Future as a very rich ghost wearing Balenciaga and riding around in a Rolls-Royce. The clips start out with Brown rising up out of the grave to perform some dance moves that will take you all the way back to Michael Jackson’s “Thriller.”

Young Thug was more of a Jack The Ripper type character where he was killing zombies and beheading people. You can find cameos from Fabolous, Trey Songz, and Teyana Taylor. Breezy ensured that he gave viewers a disclaimer for the scary video. “This film and its contents do not inherently convey or praise any kind of occult,” the disclaimer reads.”

Chris Brown is currently getting ready to release his new album “Heartbreak on a Full Moon” and this single “High End” is the latest track off the project. You will also find a bunch of other previously released singles including “Privacy,” “Questions,” “Grass Ain’t Greener,” and “Party.”
