Lil Nas X has delivered another high concept video, this time for new single “Industry Baby.” The visual catches Nas in prison and plotting his escape. With two Grammys and his platinum discs on the wall of his cell, Nas appears to be coping well with his five month sentence and is shown lifting weights and sporting a pink jumpsuit. However, as the video progresses his plan becomes clear. Alongside guest star Jack Harlow, he is plotting to bust out and go on the run. Check out the video above to see how he gets on.
“Industry Baby” is co-produced by Kanye West and Take A Daytrip. It will feature on Lil Nas ‘s debut album Montero alongside recent singles “Sun Goes Down” and “Montero (Call Me By Your Name),” famed for its Satan-worshiping video.
Along with the announcement, the rapper shared a short preview video with a hilarious take on his legal issues with Nike over the “Montero (Call me By Your Name)”-inspired “Satan Shoe” collaboration with New York-based art collective MSCHF. In a lawsuit, Nike claimed the unauthorized shoes were “likely to cause confusion…and create an erroneous association between MSCHF’s products and Nike.” MSCHF was subsequently barred from sending out any remaining pairs of the shoe.
Twitter goon-turned-rap superstar Lil Nas X has announced his debut album. The eponymous project Montero was revealed on Tuesday with a trailer inspired by the Marvel Studios ident containing images from his hits “Old Town Road,” “Montero (Call Me By Your Name),” and more. No release date has been announced though Lil Nas said on Twitter that the album is “coming soon.” Watch the trailer below.
Lil Nas X has well and truly entered album mode. Last week, he released “Sun Goes Down”, his second single of the year and follow-up to the controversial viral No. 1 “Montero (Call Me By Your Name)”, both of which are expected to feature on his forthcoming debut album, and on Saturday, he took to the storied stage of Saturday Night Live to perform both tracks. The performance of the former, during which the rapper and songwriter was accompanied by a posse of scantily clad dancers, was not without incident: during the latter half of the song, Lil Nas X’s pants appeared to rip, requiring him to cover his crotch for the rest of the performance. In response, he tweeted that, unlike many of his stunts designed to induce virality, the wardrobe malfunction was not planned. Watch the performance of “Montero” above and “Sun Goes Down” below.
i know i do a lot of planned shit but ripping my pants on live television is not one of them
Lil Nas X has dropped new song “Sun Goes Down.” The track comes with a typically memorable self-directed video from the viral star in which he travels back in time to communicate with his younger self. Check it out above.
The “Sun Goes Down” video runs with the Take a Daytrip-produced song’s theme of self-acceptance, framing it within Nas’ dark thoughts and struggles as a teenager. Showing the younger Nas as someone struggling to see a brighter future for himself, it features scenes set at his high school prom and Taco Bell (where Nas once worked). The video also includes a cameo from his father R. L. Stafford.
Lil Nas X will perform “Sun Goes Down” and previous single “Montero (Call Me By Your Name)” when he appears as the musical guest on Saturday Night Live this weekend alongside host Anya Taylor Joy. Both songs will appear on his debut studio album, due for release this summer.
