Kanye West shares snippet of new song, confirms Donda is out Friday

Kanye West shares snippet of new song, confirms Donda is out Friday
“No Child Left Behind” is set to appear on the new Kanye West album, arriving Friday.

July 20, 2021

Kanye West’s new song “No Child Left Behind” is the soundtrack to a new Beats ad featuring athlete Sha’Carri Richardson, the fastest woman in America and sixth fastest woman of all time. Per Pitchfork, the song will appear on West’s forthcoming record Donda, which was set to arrive this time last year but never materialised. All signs point to the record dropping this Friday: an album listening event is scheduled for Thursday night at Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium, which, per the Beats ad, will be live-streamed on Apple Music from 8pm ET that night. As is often the case with Kanye album rollouts, the genuine possibility of Donda’s release is legitimised by the presence of a streaming partner; until now, the only person who had claimed to have actually heard the record was Revolt TV personality RespectfullyJustin. Lala Lala announces new album, shares single with NNAMDÏ, tour dates
I Want The Door To Open is the follow-up to Lala Lala’s excellent 2018 record The Lamb, and arrives October 8 on Hardly Art.

Lala Lala, aka Lillie West, has announced that her new album I Want The Door To Open will be released this October on Hardly Art. The follow-up to the Chicago-based musician’s excellent 2018 album The Lamb (which we mistakenly put on our Best Albums of 2019 list), I Want The Door To Open is “sonically bigger and thematically more outward-looking” than past Lala Lala music, featuring contributions from WHY?’s Yoni Wolf, Nnamdi Ogbonnaya, Kara Jackson, OHMME, Adam Schatz, Sen Morimoto, Christian Lee Hutson, Kaina Castillo, Hand Habits’ Meg Duffy, Will Miller, Gia Margaret, Josiah Wolf, and Ben Gibbard.

Alongside the announcement, West has shared “DIVER”, a collaboration with Ogbonnaya that serves as the “thesis of the record”. Of the song, West says: “I want total freedom, total possibility, total acceptance. I want to fall in love with the [metaphorical Sisyphaean] rock. I think it’s easy to feel like we keep making the same mistakes over and over again, that we’re Sisyphus. The key is falling in love with the labor of walking up the mountain.” Watch the video for “DIVER” above and pre-order I Want The Door To Open here.

Lil Uzi Vert‘s ex-girlfriend Brittany Byrd filed a police report on Friday afternoon alleging that Uzi “put a gun to her stomach and then struck her”. Per TMZ, Byrd was dining with rapper SAINt JHN at West Hollywood’s Dialog Cafe around noon when Uzi arrived and attempted to start an altercation with JHN; when Uzi flashed the handle of his gun, bystanders began to flee the scene. According to TMZ’s account, Uzi was then approached by Byrd; the rapper responded by punching her and pointing his gun at her. Read the full report here.

After years of delays, Uzi released his sophomore record Eternal Atake to acclaim last year, and followed it up with a deluxe edition titled LUV Vs. The World 2 and a collaborative tape with Future, Pluto Vs. Baby Pluto. He recently pierced a giant pink diamond into his forehead.

On Friday, TDE queen SZA streamed a live performance as part of a branded partnership with Grey Goose. The set was vintage SZA: surrounded by flowers and lush greenery, she cycled through easy, sonically unimpeachable renditions of favourites including “Love Galore” and “Supermodel”, as well as new tracks like “Good Days”. Right at the set’s end, she surprised by performing a snippet of a brand new track titled “Shirt”, which fans have been breathlessly anticipating since it was first teased by SZA on social media back in January. Watch SZA performing the track above, at the 48:26 timestamp.
