The Met Gala 2022 took place on Monday night at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. This year’s event marked the first return to normal service since the pandemic, with the 2020 event axed and 2021’s Met Gala happening in September, not the usual first Monday in May date. With a theme of “Gilded Glamor” and a guest list that ran from Megan Thee Stallion to, err, Elon Musk and James Corden, this year’s bash was a classic chance for everyone at home sitting in their PJs to say, ‘Well she looks like shit’ and ‘Who thought that was a good idea?!’ Scroll down to peep all of the best musician looks from the night.

Megan Thee Stallion is opening up about Tory Lanez allegedly shooting her in July 2020.

On Monday’s episode of CBS Mornings, Megan will sit down with co-host Gayle King for her first sit-down interview about the alleged incident, which supposedly occurred while the two were leaving a Hollywood Hills house party.

In a clip shared by the network on Sunday, the rapper can be seen growing emotional as she begins to talk about the argument that led to Lanez allegedly shooting at her feet.

“I get out of the car and it’s like everything happens so fast, and all I hear is this man screaming,” as Megan recalls. “He said, ‘Dance, bitch.’ and he started shooting. And I’m just like, ‘Oh, my God.’”

According to her, Lanez was “standing up over the window” when he fired a “couple” shots at the ground. However, she also says she “didn’t even want to move” in case she took the “wrong step.”

“But I never put my hands on anybody. I never raised my voice too loud,” she goes on to add. “Like, this was one of them times where it was, like, it shouldn’t have got this crazy.”

Following the alleged shooting, Lanez was arrested and charged with felony assault with a semiautomatic firearm and another felony count of carrying a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle. He is also accused of inflicting “great bodily injury” to Megan, as she was forced to seek medical attention to remove shrapnel embedded into her left foot. If convicted, he faces up to 22 years in prison.

A month after his arrest, Megan took to Instagram Live to confirm Lanez shot before calling him out for getting his team to go to “these blogs, lying and shit.”

Lanez has since pled not guilty and has continued to maintain his innocence, through a statement and lyrics featured on his 2020 album, DAYSTAR. Earlier this month though, he was handcuffed in court after violating an order banning him from publicly talking about the case or Megan.

Last weekend, Megan Thee Stallion previewed a new song called “Plan B” at Coachella. Far from the pop chart ambitions of her previous single “Sweetest Pie” featuring Dua Lipa, the “Plan B” snippet hinted at a song that pays tribute to ’90s hip-hop by artists like Lil Kim and Foxy Brown. As promised, Meg has shared the full song today. It’s a bruising, take-no-prisoners track targeting a former flame who looks much dimmer in the cold light of day, and you can hear it below.

Megan Thee Stallion’s Coachella performance was memorable for many reasons, not least the tease of a new song from the rapper. It will also live long in the memory of whoever is responsible for censoring footage of the festival for viewers in China, with Meg’s x-rated lyrics causing major issues for the notoriously sensitive moral arbiters tasked with ensuring nothing too racy was shown online.

Read Next:

As The Hollywood Reporter notes, users of social media app WeChat were able to stream many of the Coachella performances through the use of VPNs and other means, circumventing the lack of an official stream for music fans in China. Even that footage, however, remains censored. The job of censoring music festival footage might be simple if you’re handling, say, Friday night headliner Harry Styles but it’s a different challenge when Megan Thee Stallion gets to the “WAP” part of her set.

As you can see below, deciding where to place black bars across the screen was a tricky decision for the censors, with the blockages moving across the screen haphazardly. The song’s lyrics, too, proved a little too much for the censors but viewers protested by typing them out in full in the comment section. Some even changed the title to “Wet Ass Puxi,” a reference to the Shanghai district currently undergoing a strict period of quarantine as the Chinese government looks to maintain its zero Covid policy.

Coachella is also being livestreamed via WeChat. Apparently, this performance not only made censors sweat, everyone was also joking that they're singing a song about Shanghai Puxi District. #MeganTheeStallion #Shanghailockdown pic.twitter.com/2ltSqzFC9c

Tory Lanez‘s bail was increased to $350,000 after a judge found him in violation of a protective order in Lanez’s trail for felony assault against Megan Thee Stallion, according to a TMZ report.

At issue was a tweet Lanez posted in February alluding to the case and seeming to address Megan. “Good d*** had me f***ing 2 best friends … and I got caught … that’s what I apologized for … it’s sick how u Spun it tho …” The judge found the tweet in violation of Lanez’s instructions to not mention Megan on social media, and briefly remanded the rapper into custody, Rolling Stone‘s Nancy Dillion reported from the courthouse on Tuesday.

Lanez will be freed once the new $350,000 bail amount is posted. Prosecutors had reportedly asked the judge to remove bail or to place it at $5 million, according to Lanez’s lawyer Shawn Holley.

Tory Lanez is charged with one felony count of assault with a semiautomatic firearm and one count of carrying a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle. He is accused of shooting Megan Thee Stallion in the foot after a party on July 12, 2021. Megan has identified Tory as the shooter, and Lanez has pled not guilty. A trial is set for September 14; if convicted, Lanez faces a maximum sentence of 22 years in prison.

Lanez’s attorney Shawn Holley issued the following statement to The FADER: “The DA requested that Mr. Peterson’s bail be revoked or, in the alternative, that it be increased to $5 million. We are pleased that the Court rejected those outrageous requests.”

Megan Thee Stallion label countersues over Something for Thee Hotties
The rapper has hit back at 1501, promising to “see y’all in court.”

Megan Thee Stallion is being sued by her record label in a countersuit that claims her 2021 release Something for Thee Hotties didn’t qualify as an “album” under her record deal, Billboard reports. Last month the Houston rapper accused 1501 Certified Entertainment of attempting to keep her locked into a deal after she has delivered what she signed up to in a “an effort to try to take further advantage” of her career.

In the new filing on Monday, March 21, 1501 Certified Entertainment claimed this statement was “groundless” and asked the Houston court to rule in its favor. In the suit, seen by Billboard, 1501 claimed Something for Thee Hotties features just 29 minutes of new material and that the label did not approve it prior to its release. Something for Thee Hotties was released in October last year and includes songs including “Thot Shit” and “Tuned In Freestyle.”

“MTS knows that each ‘album’ must include at least twelve new master recordings of her studio performances of previously-unreleased musical compositions,” the label’s attorney, Steven M. Zager, said in a statement “She also knows that 1501 gets to approve the musical compositions to be included on each album. And MTS knows that none of that happened here.”

The lawsuit also aimed criticism of Megan in other areas, suggesting her relationship with management company Roc Nation was the motivating factor in her bid to leave 1501. Roc Nation began managing Megan after her first manager, her mom Holly Thomas, passed away in 2019. 1501 said in court that the agency is “notorious in the music industry for trying to persuade its management clients to leave their record labels.”

In a statement, Megan’s attorney Brad Hancock responded: “This is yet another absurd attempt by 1501 to disregard Megan’s album and squeeze more money and more free work out of her for as long as possible. We will ask the court to protect Megan from this type of abuse.”

Megan responded via Twitter, publically accusing 1501 label boss Carl Crawford of including bills for his jewellery on a business expenses account.

Megan Thee Stallion has filed a lawsuit against her record label 1501 Certified Entertainment that accuses the label of attempting to keep her locked into her deal by not considering her 2021 release Something for Thee Hotties an “album,” Billboard and Pitchfork report.

The complaint was filed last Friday (February 18) in Harris County District Court and names 1501 Certified Entertainment, LLC as the sole defendant. The petition outlines that Megan, whose real name is Megan Pete, is “seeking a declaration that her album, ‘Something for Thee Hotties‘ constituted an ‘Album’ as defined in the parties’ recording agreement.”

Read Next:

Something for Thee Hotties was released on October 29, 2021. The suit says that in January, more than two months after the project was released, 1501 sent a letter “out-of-the-blue” claiming that Something for Thee Hotties did not meet their definition of an album and therefore does not satisfy her “Minimum Recording Commitment.” The Houston rapper’s counterargument states that Something for Thee Hotties “clearly meets” the conditions required to be considered an album under their recording agreement because it is “not less than forty-five (45) minutes in length,” pointing out that there are “no other parameters or requirements under the contract for what can be deemed an ‘Album’ other than total run time of the album.”

This is not the first time that Megan Thee Stallion has taken her label to court. The complaint filed on February 18 notes the “long and tortured history of disputes” between Megan and 1501 Certified Entertainment about her recording agreement. In 2020, Megan filed a lawsuit against the label claiming that she was being blocked from releasing music. She was granted a temporary restraining order against 1501, and released Suga days later. In 2021, she sued the label over a similar situation regarding her appearing on a remix of BTS’ “Butter.”

The FADER has reached out to representatives for 1501 Entertainment and Megan Thee Stallion for more information.

Here are the best looks from the Governors Ball 2021

Here are the best looks from the Governors Ball 2021

The festival brought a sensory overload to New York City last weekend with amazing musicians and vivid fashions.

By Greta Rainbow

September 29, 2021

A music festival is an opportunity to pull a look that you wouldn’t wear back to the office or classroom when reality returns on Monday morning. It’s also countless hours of being on your feet, in the sun, in a crowd of hyped-up strangers. The coolest kids showed up to Gov Ball 2021 at Citi Field last weekend in fanny packs and stomping boots, merging practicality and style for the 10th anniversary of New York City’s hometown fest.

The big pants / tiny top trend is still going strong (and is appropriate for singing along to the lyrics of headliner Princess Nokia’s banger, “Tomboy”). Grunge prevails, from chain details to slouchy cardigans to the funky characters featured in The FADER x No Negativity’s Gov Ball merch collab. The top footwear choices were hands-down Dr. Martens, cowboy boots, dad sneakers, and a classic pair of Nikes.

If you’re missing the energy already, or stayed home and are feeling the FOMO, cop your own look on Gov Ball’s Instagram. J Balvin, EARTHGANG, Breland, Orville Peck, and King Princess debuted exclusive tees that speak to each artist’s aesthetic.

Read on for our favorite fits from all three days and all four stages.

DJ GOODCHILD and friend Amina are chilling in silks, waiting for Smino to take the stage. “I was saying to her all weekend, it’s a music festival, I should wear the ‘Get Plowed’ shirt. It’s the last day so I’ve got that on under my staple corset with a Tripp NYC kilt, New Rock boots, and the Nike Elite socks in case I gotta dunk on somebody.” Amina “just threw something on” but took Gov Ball as an opportunity to wear a bondage-style harness that is usually just hanging from her closet doorknob.

@kathiabailey / @psychedelicthreads

Kathia and Ali are wearing threads, fuzzy patches and peace-sign earrings all made by Kathia herself — okay, except for the wild western boots. “I wish I’d made these. I got them at a vintage store in Woodstock,” she says. Her style is “a bit schizophrenic, just like my music taste.” Case in point: the girls were en route from King Princess to Cordae to Megan Thee Stallion. Kathia’s brand, Psychedelic Threads, is a collection of tufted rugs, wallhangings and apparel made from upcycled mixed materials. She’s open for album art commissions.

@sonikamisra

Artist and DJ Sonika Misra has always been a Michael Jordan fan, but she became full-on obsessed with the Chicago Bulls after watching the 2020 Netflix miniseries The Last Dance. “I went on eBay searching for Bulls stuff and found this homemade dress. I had to get it. There’s no tag or anything.” Paired with classic Asics, it was the perfect fit for shuttling between shows and the artists’ area where she was hanging with New York-based rapper MIKE.

@salliebabeln

Allie is ready to bounce to Burna Boy in Telfar track pants that were lying on her bedroom floor from an event last week (perks of co-founding a production company). Pulling a cake-frosting pairing of pink and red, Allie brought it back to earth with a black linen tank and 70s orange-tinted glasses.

Being the last weekend in September, Gov Ball is blazing hot with no shade during the day and chilly once the sun drops down for the evening headliners. Rashid is transitioning to fall in leather shorts and wool Alexander Wang while clutching to summer with colorful, layered necklaces. The mini Telfar bag is obviously appropriate for all seasons. Rashid is inspired by Jean-Michel Basquiat, from his hair to his art to his attitude. Not so much the Uniqlo collab, though; that’s basic.

(L) @littlemonster_565 (R) @tiffysingss

Is purple Tiffany’s favorite color? “No, I just woke up today and wanted to be it.” Meanwhile, black and white are more Crystal’s speed. Tight pants and comfy shoes are necessary for the day’s plans: dancing to Megan Thee Stallion and A$AP Rocky. Just watch those toes.

The Olivia Rodrigo-spearheaded grunge revival doesn’t quit, with black lace, silver details and ripped fishnets spotted all over the festival grounds. New Orleans native Dylan wears a plaid dress from The Ragged Priest that suggestively zips all the way down. “How did I get dressed today? I put on whatever I thought would make Phoebe Bridgers fall in love with me.”

(L) @pinksweats / (R) @jl.bunny

Pink Sweat$ and his band were on-brand in baby pink Dickies overalls and Dr. Marten’s. But his girl — ahem, fiancée — was also serving her own variation of dreamy bubblegum style. Bunny wears a mini wrap top and ombré fringe pants from the Mexican label Thrifts+Threads, also seen on the likes of Hailey Bieber and Maren Morris.

If this superior look is any indication, R&B-influenced singer-songwriter UMI is on the up and up. Her friend, the childrenswear designer Janáe Roubleau, was inspired by UMI’s “aura, her magical essence” to style her in a complex woven dress and ethereal bodice. It’s giving Avatar.

Black and white, tatted up, and in The FADER x No Negativity x Gov Ball. It’s the new classic.

(R) @cowboy.kevv

The heavy-handed country western trend still has New York in a chokehold. Gov Ball saw boots, big buckle belts, and hats that — if they weren’t too precious — were thrown on stage for heartthrob artists like 24kGoldn to catch. When Kevin grabs the mic from Levar Mcdonald, a.k.a. DickByAir., that’s his cowboy confidence talking. Originally from Montana, all of Kevin’s clothes are from the heartland. His bandana is subtly bedazzled, a piece by his friend’s brand Ugly Cherries.

(L) @k.f.i.n.e.s.t (R) @isabel.r.y

FIT and NYU students Isabel and Caleb doubled up on AF-1s for a full day of standing around and waiting for Billie Eilish to start. Caleb wears a corset-style top designed and sewn by Isabel, repurposing a thrifted Nike hoodie that was way too big. “She’s basically my model… and my best friend.”

@r1llyr1l

Ril is a musician, a self-described “21-year-old visionary”, and how they dress is another mode of their creative expression. This wild thrifted fit is not a costume, they clarify. They normally look this good.

Levar Mcdonald, a.k.a. DickByAir, had to stop Asti-Loren and her semi-TikTok-famous service dog Luna the Tuna in their tracks to ask how they coordinated so well. The answer: it’s easy when you already resemble one another and both love teal.

Skip Marley & Popcaan Dropping Their Collab “Vibe” On Friday

Skip Marley and Popcaan are set to release their first collaboration, “Vibe,” on October 1, 2021. The two are both multi-genre recording artists who are also Jamaicans.

Skip, who was nominated for a Grammy last year but lost out, is making a wave as he enters the world of music much like his mother, uncles, and world famous grandfather Bob Marley. He announced the coming of the new single with a tweet urging his fans to pre-save the track.

The Bob Marley heir set expectations toward the track’s October 1 release date on Twitter, with a tease of the new acoustics. “Mi new chune ‘Vibe’ will be officially out fuh di people on 10/1,” he tweeted. “Thank yuh all for believin’ wit me ?#GoodVibrationz.”

Skip Marley also released a teaser of the song, which sounded like it has that upbeat Reggae/Dancehall vibe that Popcaan is known for.

— Skip Marley (@SkipMarley) September 20, 2021

Skip’s latest collab comes from a list of notable cross-genre collabs, including his RIAA Gold certified reggae R&B song “Slow Down” with H.E.R. The song was also nominated for a Grammy.

He’s also worked with Katy Perry on her 2X Platinum song “Chained To The Rhythm,” Ari Lennox on “Make Me Feel,” and others.

Meanwhile, Popcaan has also collaborated across genres with artists like Drake, Chaka Khan, Busta Rhymes, Pusha-T, Travis Scott, and even former Bad Boy rapper Shyne, Megan Thee Stallion, Snoop Dogg (then Snoop Lion), Jorja Smith, Tory Lanez, and Davido to name a few.

Of course, Popcaan’s sounds have remained hardcore dancehall for the most part, which has led to a strong worldwide following keen on his musical sound and lyrical genius.

Tory Lanez Deletes IG Fans Speculates He’s Going Jail Over Megan Thee Stallion Incident

Social media users have been reacting to news that Tory Lanez might be heading to jail over the Megan Thee Stallion shooting last year.

Tory Lanez has been sharing a number of charitable acts he has undertaken in the past few days. However, on Tuesday, he shared a cryptic tweet, “it’s been real,” then followed up with deleting all the media off of his Instagram account, leading fans and social media users to speculate that he’s heading the jail as the criminal case into the shooting of Megan Thee Stallion gets underway.

Lanez was charged with assault in October 2020 after allegedly shooting Megan Thee Stallion in her feet.

According to police reports, the incident occurred in July 2020 when Megan was shot outside of a Hollywood Hills mansion. Lanez was later charged with assault in October, and he’s now facing a maximum 22 years sentence if convicted.

It’s been real .

— Tory Lanez (@torylanez) September 22, 2021

Tory Lanez has asserted his innocence but has not been allowed to talk to journalists due to a gag order placed on the case by the presiding judge. The Canadian rapper also appeared not to be taking the charges seriously as he earlier in the year violated the conditions of a protective order granted to Megan 2020, which stipulated that he must keep away from Megan, not contact her and stay within 100 yards of her.

However, in July, he appeared on stage with DaBaby at the Rolling Loud Music Festival, performing right after Megan’s set and possibly violating the protective order.

Tory Lanez, who has been out on bail, saw his bail increasing $250,000 from $190,000 by an L.A. County Superior Court judge who noted that he would have to post his new bail to avoid going to jail while his case is pending. The protection order was also modified with new terms inserted that “specifically prohibit” him from attending the same events as Megan, and where violated, he’ll be remanded into custody.

Aside from the charges for assault with a semiautomatic firearm, Tory Lanez also faces charges for the personal use of a firearm and carrying a loaded, unregistered gun in a vehicle.

Social media users reacted to his cryptic post.

“Guess who’s going to jail tonight,” one person teased under Lanez’s cryptic tweet citing a popular line from one of Kanye West’s Donda album songs, “Jail.”

“He going to jail for shooting a black queen,” another person commented.

Meanwhile, others noted concern for the Toronto rapper. “I know you not talking about killing yourself,” one fan tweeted.

Tion Wayne – Spend a Bag Lyrics

[Intro: Tion Wayne]
Uh-huh, yeah
Come on, come on, yeah
Tion Wayne from the, yeah

[Verse 1: Tion Wayne]
African
Brown and thick like Megan Thee Stallion
My dark skin jawn love nothin’ but travellin’
Car in sport and she whip it like Edmonton
Chanel bags, LV on the norm’
Rolls or the Maybach, we just sit and it turn
It’s the Rolex now, before the drill, it was on
If a man talk shit, then we’ll fill him with corn
Uh-huh, yeah
Nothin’ but shoppin’
What you know about c-c-coppin’ the foreign?
For that bag, say I saw ’em, God bless you with somethin’
Used to back the firearm, man, them days were rotten
Man, we came from shuttin’
True, we came from nothin’, it was hard for the M
In the Range, I’m cuttin’, you’re a boss ’til the end
Other girls up in the dance, lookin’ for rent
She would never sit on her arse ’cause she a ten

[Chorus: 6LACK, Tion Wayne]
Spoil you, babe
Do you good, you know I love you mad
You should know that I
Like your style, I love your vibe (Uh-huh)
I choose you, they wonder why (Come on, come on)
Tell no lies, I wanna test you up, bless you up

[Verse 2: Tion Wayne]
She my drug, she like the dealers
Think you my weakness
When I’m vexed, send you texts, you keep my secrets
Touch my chest, wanna sex, you likkle sweetness
Like the rest, big rookie
No respect for your ex, how could he?
Run up a check, shop in West, then nookie
Matchin’ sets when we jet for a Woolie
Deserve all my love, fuck the word and the blogs
Heard that I trust, won’t converse with the cops
Can’t let her leave, I won’t reverse on the talk
Preserve all my love, hurts when it cuts
How to love all the time?
I’m emotionally closed, open up when I rhyme
She my African queen, backbone, she my spine
Man, she just wanna come and spend some quality time
Uh-huh, yeah, yeah

[Chorus: 6LACK]
Spoil you, babe
Do you good, you know I love you mad
You should know that I
Like your style, I love your vibe
I choose you, they wonder why
Tell no lies, I wanna test you up, bless you up

[Verse 3: 6LACK]
Okay, walk like a model, shake like a bottle
Love you like I love me, that might be the motto
Drape you in that down, who gon’ love you like I can?
Money be the language, hopin’ you comprehend
Might just spend a bag on you
Brag on you, priceless, I could never put a tag on you
Showin’ off, put it down
Max out, new accounts

[Chorus: 6LACK]
Spoil you, babe
Do you good, you know I love you mad
You should know that I
Like your style, I love your vibe
I choose you, they wonder why
Tell no lies, I wanna test you up, bless you up

Nicki Minaj Subs BET Hip-Hop Awards, Cardi B & Megan Leads Nominees

Nicki Minaj is “Seeing Green” after BET Hip-Hop Awards announces this year’s nomination.

The nominees for the 16th annual BET Hip-Hop Awards have been released ahead of the event to be held in October. It’s little surprise that dynamic duo Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion are leading this year’s nominations for the Hip Hop awards. Both women have been tied with nine nominations each.

Cardi B, in particular, continues to stun with her ability to sweep awards nominations in spite of not having a mixtape or studio album. Her nominations come from her collaboration with Megan Thee Stallion for “WAP,” the raunchy female-centric banger of 2021 that set off many angry men.

Megan’s nominations, on the other hand, account for music from “WAP” but also her albums Good News and track “Suga” released in 2020.

Toronto Lover Boy, Drake, will be battling Megan and Cardi with eight nominations across seven categories and is vying for the coveted Hip Hop Artist of the Year and Song of the Year award.

Drake’s nominations are from work released in 2020 and won’t include his recently released Certified Lover Boy, which missed the cut-off date for nominations.

Drake’s nominations include “Laugh Now, Cry Later,” with Lil Durk tipped for “Best Hip Hop Video,” “Song of The Year”, and “Best Collaborations” categories. The “Way 2 Sexy” rapper has two nods for his collab on 21 Savage’s “Mr. Right Now” in the collaboration category, while his work on “Migos’ “Havin’ Our Way” is tipped for “Best Featured Verse.”

Drake was nominated in the “Best Lyricist” and “Hustler of The Year” categories as well.

Quite a few big names, including Moneybagg Yo, Tyler, the Creator, Migos, Megan Thee Stallion, DJ Khaled, 21 Savage & Metro Boomin, and J. Cole are nominated for Hip Hop Album of the Year with their latest respective albums, while Lil Nas X received two nominations for his controversial single “Montero (Call Me by Your Name),” while Tyler received four nominations for his latest album Call Me If You Get Lost.

Nicki Minaj seemingly wasn’t too happy about the nomination and thinks “Seeing Green” should’ve been given a nod. “If you mention ‘HipHop’ in 2021 & don’t mention #SeeingGreen that tells me everything I need to know,” she shared on Twitter on Thursday (September 9).

Megan Thee Stallion shares new song “Thot Shit”
Tina Snow returns in the Houston rapper’s brand new visual.

By Jordan Darville

June 11, 2021

In 2020, Megan Thee Stallion did the following: released her EP Suga, scored massive hits with “Captain Hook” and the Beyoncé-featuring remix of “Savage,” performed on Saturday Night Live, and won Best New Artist at the Grammys (as well as Best Rap Song and Best Rap Performance for “Savage.”) When she announced that she was taking a break, it seemed to make sense.

Then, a few months later, Megan announced the release of a new single called “Thot Shit,” which she said would mark the return of her persona Tina Snow. On Friday, the song dropped along with a video in which Megan, as her Tina Snow alter ego, chases down a politician determined to punish confident women who want to express their sexuality. She is joined on her mission by a number of her fans, the Hotties. On Twitter, Megan said the song was about reclaiming certain pejorative words. “I’m really just talking shit and taking ownership of the words ‘thot’ and ‘hoe,'” Megan wrote, “bc they’re not the drag the men think it is when trying to come at women for doing them.”

Pharrell Williams Put Heat On Labels: “No One Should Own You”

Pharrell Williams belies that labels are using advance payments to artists as an entrapment to own their creative works. The artist was speaking to Steve Stoute about the pitfalls of advance loans the devastating effect it has had on artists.

The discussions were centered on United Masters hosting SelectCon on Twitch in a two-day conference. CEO of United Master Steve Stoute and Pharrell Williams discussed various aspects of music and its operations as they discussed the problems arising from contracts with labels that are unfair to artists.

Many artists have come out to accuse labels of taking advantage of them with unfair deals and contracts, and this has led to many artists even forming their own record labels and distribution companies to avoid the issues with labels.

Among those who have complained are the likes of Kanye West, Teyana Taylor, Megan Thee Stallion, and many more artists who claim they have not received any income from their labels.

However, the issues are said to be stemming from the types of agreements that artists have with the labels, and now many new artists are falling into the trap of advances, especially.

In response to a question, Stoute asked Pharrell about what he thought of these advances. The experienced artist/producer and Stoute agreed that the way labels operate should be illegal.

“You shouldn’t walk into a company and say, ‘I’m gonna make this record.’ They give you an advance then for the tenure of that, the entire time you’re album’s out, you’re working to pay back that advance,” said Pharrell said. Stoute then interrupted to add, “It’s illegal.” Pharrell continued, “No bank gives a company a loan to start a company and walks away with the trademarks.”

According to Pharrell, “No one should own you. No one should own your actions. No one should own your creations. But you.”

https://www.instagram.com/reel/COQ8LeHjhNR/?utm_source=ig_embed

The current situation in the music industry has led to many artists suing their labels for unfair deals. The latest person to do so is Megan Thee Stallion, who alleged that her contract with 1501 Entertainment saw her receiving little to no income from her deal. The CEO of that label admitted to giving Megan a $10,000 advance. However, what he took in return was far more.

“we gave her a $10,000 advance when we first signed her and gave it to her mother. I don’t know what happened[with that]. 300 (the distribution company she had signed to) gave us $200,000 check when we first signed. I gave her $50,000 of it. I didn’t have to give her that. That was mine at the time,” he said in a Billboard interview.

In her initial lawsuit to void her 30 recording contract with 1501 Entertainment, Megan claims that she was only given $15,000 from the label after earning a billion streams and selling over 300,000 individual track downloads that estimate earnings of $7 million.

The matter is still before a court.

Tory Lanez Announces He And Chris Brown Joint Album

Tory Lanez and Chris Brown got a joint project on the way.

Any other artist might have crumbled under the type of pressure that Tory Lanez has had to face over the last year. Somehow, he’s been able to keep his career alive and thriving as well. Earlier this year, in March, he dropped off a new EP called Playboy. Since he brought it out, he’s been doing his best to promote it. That’s as best as an artist can do in these pandemic times. Like most others, he’s been doing most of the promotion online.

Even though he’s faced a lot of negative media since the Megan Thee Stallion shooting incident, he’s been able to keep his head above water. In 2020 he released his fifth studio album, Daystar, which debuted at number 10 on the Billboard 200. The album was a brave one and actually explored his alleged shooting of the female rapper. Even though it made a strong debut, it did not receive a lot of media attention because of the controversial subject that he chose to tackle.

Yesterday night, May 1, he performed his latest album during a virtual live show. Following the show, he dropped some exciting news. While being interviewed by DJ Carisma, he revealed that he has an upcoming joint project with Chris Brown. His career also looks to be taking off in the right direction as he also shared that he would be dropping two new singles, and each one will have features from the rising rappers DaBaby and Yung Bleu.

While Lanez and Brown have been linked through music before, they’ve never attempted collaboration on this scale. One thing is for sure the two men are well-known and somewhat revered in the R&B space. Fans will surely be excited to see what they come up with when it drops.

The “Savage” rapper made a number of posts which included cryptic photos and videos on social media showing her literally in a state of recharging. The rapper appears to be in a large fluid-filled tank, laying still with an oxygen mask over her face.

The system message displayed in the video states, “Megan Thee Stallion is recharging! Due to the demands of the Hot Girl lifestyle, Meg has now entered a period of regeneration to prepare for what’s next….In her absence, mgmt will manage all social posting on behalf of Thee Hot Girl Coach. [Thee Hotties] lead a brave RESISTANCE in anticipation for the return of their Fearless Captain!”

Megan later took to Twitter to announce that she would “be back when it’s time.” She also proceeded to change all her social media accounts’ profile photos to the one of her recharging.

I’ll be back when it’s time ?

Megan Thee Stallion announcement has fans in suspense, which is probably the reaction the rapper had hoped for. While they are not sure what big move the rapper is coming with next, some fans are speculating that it will be a deluxe version of her November 2020 debut album, “Good News.”

This speculation comes as fans pointed out that the bodysuit worn in her “Good News” photoshoot was the same video suit the rapper is wearing in one of her recent posts.
