A new Calvin Klein commercial features a 35-second snippet of an unreleased FKA twigs track, a tantalizing minor-key cut that places her angular vocals over minimalist trap production. The brand posted the clip, shot by the photography duo of Mert Alas and Marcus Piggot, early Wednesday morning, and twigs reposted it later, expressing her appreciation for the opportunity.

“It’s an honour to be the new face of calvin klein and to have worked so closely with my dear friends @mertalas and @macpiggott to create something that i believe reflects me as a woman and artist,” she wrote in an Instagram caption. FKA twigs has dropped a new music video for her Caprisongs track “Pamplemousse.” The video, directed by Aidan Zamiri and Yuma Burgess, has a moving picture flick book style aesthetic with multiple heavily filtered images of twigs sequenced one after another to create imagery that matches with the jerky beat of the song. Check it out above.

“Pamplemousse” is the latest in a long line of Caprisongs videos and follows “Papi Bones,” “Honda,” “Bliss,” “Oh My Love,” and “Thank You Song.” She also dropped a video for new song “Killer,” featuring a cameo from Elite actor Arón Piper.

FKA twigs stans on TikTok had a minor meltdown last month when the pop auteur shared a clip of her making out with Arón Piper, the Spanish heartthrob who acts in Netflix’s Elite. Since the clip was soundtracked by twigs’ excellent new song “killer,” it was logical to assume that the PDA was in service of a new music video. And that’s just what’s been delivered today, directed by Yoann Lemoine. We see footage of twigs and Piper enjoy their, uh extremely potent chemistry on the sandy shores intercut with twigs’ reliably sensational dance moves. Check it out above.

“Twigs approached me with a beautiful treatment for ‘killer’ that she had written about her personal story. It felt empowering and vulnerable at the same time. I said yes instantly when she asked me to direct it. It was the perfect opportunity to portray her in a way that we have not seen before, raw and intimate. The video is about the poison and the fuel that personal trauma is in art. How our experience forces us to create and how sometimes it is only inhibition and violence.

I just wanted to let her talent as a performer and dancer shine through without turbulence or filter, and to let the beautiful work of choreographer Juliano Nuñes shine through her. Twigs is the hardest working artist I have ever met, and it made the process so easy. Her connection with Arón Piper is very special and cinematic, he brought the perfect tension to the film, I’m very excited I could work with both of them.”

FKA twigs has revealed in a new interview that she and Jorja Smith are cousins. The pair, who worked together on this year’s “darjeeling,” had no knowledge of their family status prior to their collaboration, which featured on twigs’ latest mixtape, Caprisongs.

Speaking in a new interview published this week, twigs told GQ: “I’d never met her [Smith] before, and I jumped in her car with her, and I remember thinking to myself, ‘Gosh, that’s really strange. We’ve got exactly the same kind of skin.’” She added: “A few months later I was on the road to go to LA and she left me a voice note saying, ‘You’re never going to believe this, but I’ve just spoken to my dad and he’s spoken to his sister and we’re related.’”

‘“It’s dangerous to be a woman in love”- when at its worst the effects of heart break can define one’s trajectory much more than the beauty of the love itself, in my song ‘Killer’ I explore this concept. The navigation, the hunt and the kill. The death of promises, dreams and the future that was once promised. But like the wildest plucked roses, I find myself more beautiful delicately wilted, in shadow, forced solace, darkened at the edges and achingly thirsting to be tended to again.’

FKA twigs has finally been granted a day in court to make her case against her former boyfriend Shia LeBeouf, Rolling Stone reports. At a Monday morning hearing, a judge confirmed that the trial will begin on April 17, 2023.

Twigs sued LeBouf in December 2020 and accused him of mental, emotional, and physical abuse — including sexual battery — in an interview with The New York Times. “What I went through with Shia was the worst thing I’ve ever been through in the whole of my life,” she told The Times. “I’d like to be able to raise awareness on the tactics that abusers use to control you and take away your agency.”

LeBeouf issued the following statement in response: “I’m not in any position to tell anyone how my behavior made them feel. I have no excuses for my alcoholism or aggression, only rationalizations. I have been abusive to myself and everyone around me for years. I have a history of hurting the people closest to me. I’m ashamed of that history and am sorry to those I hurt. There is nothing else I can really say.” In a later email to The Times responding to twigs’ specific claims, however, he wrote that “many of these allegations are not true.”

Another day another Caprivid, or however the adage goes. Ever since Caprisongs released in January, FKA twigs has shared videos at a rapid pace, building a whole visual universe for her latest album. Last week, she shared videos for “oh my love” and “honda” where, respectively, she took a restorative trip to the salon and rode on top of a moving vehicle. Today, it’s the Dystopia-featuring “which way” that’s receiving a visual treatment. Check out the Aidan Zamiri-directed video below.

FKA twigs has been building out an extended universe for her third studio LP, January’s CAPRISONGS. In the past two weeks alone, she’s released visual treatments for three of the album’s tracks, as well as directing a short film titled Playscape in conjunction with the 2022 Woodmark Prize and appearing in Yung Lean‘s “Bliss” video. Last Thursday, she danced in a cramped living room with Shygirl for “papi bones.” This past Wednesday, she received an extravagant manicure for “oh my love.” And today, she’s tied herself to the front of a moving vehicle for “honda,” the record’s Pa Salieu-featuring second track.

“Yolo, like with me it’s just anything to get the shot,” twigs told Rolling Stone when asked about the decision to film her latest cinematic endeavor in such high-speed conditions. “Working with [director] Aiden Zamiri has been incredible, he’s a genius. ‘Honda’ for me is like a perfect definition of a ‘caprivid’ because it’s super short and cheeky and it leaves you wanting more.”

When Shygirl broke out in 2018 with her Cruel Practice EP, it was immediately apparent that the world needed her to collaborate with FKA twigs, another English artist weaving entrancing songs from threads of electronic music, albeit in quite different ways. That connection came this year in Caprisongs, a mixtape from FKA twigs that saw her work with loads of artists in a string of different genres like never before. “papi bones,” her song with Shygirl, is a dancehall track, and today the music video is out.

The video is as incredibly stylish as you’d expect from twigs. Decked out in Burberry outfits, twigs and Shygirl take an abbreviated version of their song into a small London living room. It would be a tight squeeze even without the motorcycle that twigs dances on, but the energy is reminiscent of a tightly packed party (thanks in no small part to the black-and-white cutaways of sweaty wining). Near the end of the song, twigs and Shygirl take a few very cute goats for a stroll.

In an interview with Apple Music 1 airing today, FKA twigs referred to “Jealousy” as “the soul of [CAPRISONGS]” and described how she connected with Rema. “It was funny actually, because Rema was quite difficult to get in touch with. One of my closest friends, Irene, she’s Nigerian. We kind of had made a link with Rema’s team, but it was just difficult to get that flow conversation. I was talking to Irene one day, I was just like, ‘This is like super random but I don’t want to sound weird because I know you’re Nigerian, but you don’t know Rema, do you?’ She was like, ‘Yeah, yeah, no, I do know him.’ … I was like, ‘You couldn’t tell him to put some extra harmonies on the track. Could you?’ It was actually through one of my oldest friends that we ended up connecting and finishing the track through her, which was really sweet. To me, that’s the soul of the record.

FKA twigs and Central Cee share “Measure of a Man” music video
Visuals for the single from The King’s Man soundtrack have arrived.

By Jordan Darville

November 29, 2021

FKA twigs began her journey to experimental pop auteur on the back of a remarkable string of music videos, and it’s rare that her more recent output is anything less than impressive. Her latest visuals are for “Measure of a Man,” her grime-ified James Bond theme for the upcoming spy film The King’s Man, out December 22. Lots of videos for movie soundtrack singles can lean too heavily on the thing it’s promoting, a trap “Measure of a Man” evades thanks primarily to twigs’ incredible dancing across director Diana Kunst’s stylized settings.

Both twigs and Central Cee, the London rapper featured on the song, resonated with the song for different reasons. “This song has such a different sound which is a challenge,” twigs said in a press statement. “you’ve got to really embody the song. For me especially with my vocals, I had to pull a different side of my artistry out.”

As for Central, the fact that the song was for a film soundtrack made it a good fit for his style. “What I listen to when it comes to trying to find beats is something theatrical, it needs to sound like a movie. And that’s exactly what’s going on with this song, it sounds like it’s made for a movie regardless.”

FKA twigs and Central Cee have shared “Measure of a Man,” a track teased by twigs in an Instagram post last week. It will appear on the soundtrack of The King’s Man, the third instalment (and prequel) of the British-American action-comedy series Kingsman, coming to theaters December 22.

“Measure of a Man,” twigs’ first collaboration with the London rapper, is Bond-like in both its lush production and twigs’ sensual delivery. Cee’s grimy verse (It’s the manners that make a man / But the hammers that break a man / Damn”) might feel out of place in Goldfinger, but it sits well with the Kingsman films’ more youthful aesthetic.

FKA twigs has filed a lawsuit accusing Shia LaBeouf, her former boyfriend, of physical, mental, and emotional abuse, according to a report in The New York Times.

“What I went through with Shia was the worst thing I’ve ever been through in the whole of my life,” twigs told the Times, describing a relationship wracked with physical and mental suffering that disconnected her from her friends and supporters. “I’d like to be able to raise awareness on the tactics that abusers use to control you and take away your agency.”

In the lawsuit, detailed in the Times article, twigs describes being choked by LaBeouf on a drive back from the desert and being assaulted and screamed at by the actor after a stop at a nearby gas station. The incident was part of a pattern of “relentless abuse,” twigs alleges in the lawsuit filed in Los Angeles Superior Court. The suit accuses LaBoeuf of sexual battery, assault, and infliction of emotional distress, including knowingly inflicting twigs with a sexually transmitted disease.

The report in the Times also includes allegations of abuse from Karolyn Pho, another former girlfriend of LeBeouf’s.

When reached by email by the Times, LaBeouf issued a statement on the report’s allegations. “I’m not in any position to tell anyone how my behavior made them feel,” he wrote. “I have no excuses for my alcoholism or aggression, only rationalizations. I have been abusive to myself and everyone around me for years. I have a history of hurting the people closest to me. I’m ashamed of that history and am sorry to those I hurt. There is nothing else I can really say.” In a separate email responding to specific claims of abuse, LaBeouf wrote that “many of these allegations are not true.”

twigs says that she plans to donate a “significant portion” of any money received through the lawsuit to domestic violence charities.

Over the weekend, FKA twigs sat down with the Grammy Museum’s Programs At Home series to discuss her creative process, quarantine, and her excellent 2019 record Magdalene. Towards the beginning of the video call, though, the producer and songwriter happened to drop a bit of a bombshell: she’s “just finishing” Magdalene’s follow-up after completing the vast majority of the record over the past few months’ COVID-19 quarantine. “I just said ‘You know what, I’m going to make an album’, and I just went and did it,” she told Grammys moderator Scott Goldman. “I worked predominantly with an amazing artist and producer called El Guincho, and I did the whole thing with pretty much all of the collaborators over FaceTime.” Twigs did not reveal any additional details about the project; still, given there was a five-year gap between her first record and her sophomore record, the speed of creation is notable.

El Guincho is known for his records Alegranza! and Pop Negro, both released on Young Turks, as well as his work as the primary producer on Rosalía’s El Mal Querer, which won him Latin Grammy awards for Best Urban Fusion Performance and Best Alternative Song (both for “Malamente”) as well as Album of the Year, Best Contemporary Pop Vocal Album, Best Engineered Album and Best Recording Package. Google shared the second season of their Art Zoom series, which saw musicians add educational narration to iconic works of art. While last year’s season featured artists like Maggie Rogers and Feist, the new season will see Grimes, FKA twigs, J Balvin, The 1975 frontman Matty Healy and Chaeyoung K-pop group Twice offering insightful discussion on works by artists including Bruegel, Mondrian, and Yoo Youngkuk.

The series hopes to expose wider audiences to fine art, as well as highlight Google’s work on digitizing these classic works using their ultra-high-resolution “gigapixel” art camera. In her video, FKA twigs dives into “Mary Magdalene in Ecstacy” by Artemisia Gentileschi and its effect on her album MAGDALENE. “When I was researching about Mary Magdelene…she seemed so poised and put together,” twigs says. “The irony is in finishing my music I found deep wildness, a looseness, an acceptance, a release. That’s exactly what I’m experiencing in this painting.”

FKA twigs shared the cinematic visuals for “Sad Day” on Friday, the latest single from her album MAGDALENE. Directed by Hiro Murai, known for his work with Donald Glover on Atlanta and Guava Island, the video sees twigs flying and wielding a sword in a duel through the empty streets of London. From there, the lines around reality start to get a bit blurry.

According to a press release, twigs underwent three years of swordsmanship training in the art of Wushu under the guidance of Master Wu of the Shaolin Wushu Centre. “Everything I’ve previously done with my body, all the training, and dancing, has led to this point,” the singer explained.

If there’s one thing you notice about 645AR’s flow, it’s the high-pitched squeak he raps in. Somehow it works, and there’s no better example than the rapper’s latest release “Sum Bout U.” With a feature from FKA twigs, the video finds the pair in a match-up that’s become even more familiar since our months in lockdown: digital performer and voyeur. Logging onto a website called “OnlyCamzzz,” 645AR heads straight for twigs’ stream, finding her in a variety colorful fits and backdrops.

Along with the video’s release, FKA twigs shared a sex work mutual support-fundraiser to provide direct financial support to sex workers and donated £10,000 to the cause. Alongside Lysistrata, SWARM, and East London Strippers Collective, it’s also aimed at “challenging public attitudes, tackling stigma, and fighting for [their] rights and protections.”

“I feel like now is the time for me to step forward, pay respect, and shine a light on the challenges facing sex workers, especially during these uncertain times,” the singer said, citing her own experience working as a hostess in a gentlemen’s club.

i was 19 when i learnt my first pole move, i learnt a back hook spin from a stripper when i was working as a hostess in a gentleman’s club. for those of you who don’t know, hostessing is when one person pays another person for their time, anything from a conversation over dinner to sex work, and the club gets a cut of the fee. my lived experience as a very young woman in these environments has not only informed the strong and formidable woman that i am today, but also a lot of my work as a music and visual artist – sometimes even subconsciously. i feel like now is the time for me to step forward, pay respect, and shine a light on the challenges facing sex workers, especially during these uncertain times. sex workers I know and have met have discipline, craft, talent and work ethic – not only do they deserve better long-term, but their income has been wiped out by the lockdown and many are invisible to the financial aid available to others. there’s a bigger journey in challenging public attitudes, tackling stigma, and fighting for rights and protections – but today I’m inviting you to join me in helping with cash donations to SWARM, Lysistrata and ELSC. these organisations are providing direct financial support to strippers and sex workers, we’ve kicked off the the fund with £10,000 and you can donate at https://www.gofundme.com/f/sexworkermutualaidfunds this week, SWARM @swarmhive Lysistrata @lysistratamccf and ELSC @ethicalstripper will also be taking over my social media channels.

The clip was shot in late 2019 around twigs’s performance at AfroPunk in Atlanta, where twigs performed a moon dance with a spiritual healer named Queen Afua. “This essential piece is about resurrecting the womxn,” Afua says, “because if you elevate the womxn, you elevate the family, and then we can all transform and birth a new world.”

The pair take their message of empowerment through movement from the AfroPunk grounds to Blue Flame, a Black Atlanta strip club, where twigs takes the stage. In an interview with WeTransfer, twigs said: “My experience at the Blue Flame solidified that, although historically women are often pitched against each other for their looks or their assets by the patriarchy, when left to our own devices we are incredibly nurturing and healing for each other.”

FKA twigs – Home With You Lyrics

Play this song

[Verse 1]
I’m so wired for it, seen it, tried it
I’d die for you on my terms
When I get my blessings
When will I get my lessons learned?
Apples and cherries, pain
Breathe in, breathe out pain
No, no, novocaine
Still maintain my grace
How come?

[Pre-Chorus]
The more you have the more that people want from you
The more you burn away the more the people learn from you
The more you pull away the more that they depend on you
I’ve never seen a hero like me in a sci-fi
So I wonder if your needs are even meant for me
I wonder if you think that I could ever raise you up
I wonder if you think that I could ever help you fly
Never seen a hero like me in a sci-fi
You’re my savior, my revival it belong to you
Mary Magdalene would never let her loved ones down

[Chorus]
I didn’t know that you would love me
If you’d have just told me I’d be home with you
I didn’t know that you would were lonely
If you’d have just told me I’d be right down the hills to you

[Verse 2]
When I vision eyes
All I see is black
Ground me to the core
Just a little more
Get it on, I know I’ve been gone
You’ve been all alone
Stoking at the fire
Set the place alight
Call me late at night
And I’ll be running home to you

[Chorus]
I didn’t know that you would love me
If you’d have just told me I’d be home with you
I didn’t know that you would were lonely
If you’d have just told me I’d be right down the hills to you
I’d be running down and down, the hills to be with you
Home
I’d be running down the hills to be with you
I never told you I was lonely too

[Instrumental Outro]
